WINDSURFING IN PORTUGAL

Windsurfing Images
The Portuguese Coast provides some very good windsurfing conditions as there are constant winds in force that average between Force 3 to 5.

A particularly good windsurfing beach is the famous "Guincho", which is East of the city of Lisbon.  The waves here can range from one to three metres, but there is also a strong undercurrent that has to be considered and monitored.  Another popular location is the "Praia Grande" on the North coast.

In the Algarve, there are many windsurfing centres on the beaches and equipment can be easily rented out.  To practice windsurfing in the Algarve in the South of Portugal is very easy to do as there are many spots that have been particularly reserved just for this activity, such as Sagres.

Before windsurfing here though, it is important to know what kind of wind you are looking for and this should depend on your level of expertise.  There are onshore and sideshore winds and other spots especially for beginners.

It is important to choose your spot very carefully, as this coast is in the Atlantic Ocean and the waves can be quite big alot of the time and also quite dangerous.
